Photos From the Killington VT Piper's Gathering
2004
I, like many others, will forever miss the Great
Town Hall at North Hero, VT. Some of the most pleasant memories of my life
center there. The echos of varigated piping cacophany. Wandering the grounds
for a great drink and a tune with friends. Night revelries, with the moon
checking her complexion on the mirror of Lake Champlain. Who could forget
the people from Quebec, Brittany and France dancing dances I, theretofore,
didn't know existed. Who could forget the first time, there (or anywhere
that I know of), that Paddy Keenan and Jerry O'Sullivan played together.
I can still hear the "weet-weet-weet" of arundo donax sharks in
the basement kitchen, wondering if that little squeel, somewhere around
G Natural, would be, at last, the dream of Ennis or Clancy. Alas, that old
town hall couldn't take us anymore (For those unfamiliar, I assure you,
we didn't break it, despite dancing efforts to do so!). We would like to
come and hold the old hall up with bracing poles. Thanks go to The Shore
Acres Inn for taking us for 3 years. I will have great memories of thier
wide expanses of green and the best view possible of the lake. They did
so much, but, alas a tent on the green turned out to be inadequate for what
we were doing. A more rational and cost effective tack had to be taken.
Hence...........
..........a new place and new time. Killington,VT
is a green and rolling ski resort in central Vermont in the outskirts of
the Green Mountains. There was no sking. But there was plenty of pipes and
piping in a misty mountain setting. What a weekend in a very comfortable
setting. A luxury hotel is always A-OK with me (swimming pool!). Bravo organizers,
for salving the the wound that is leaving North Hero! You couldn't have
picked a better place to create new memories in the years to come. I will
now let these photographs allow The Piper's Gathering, in Killington, VT,
to speak for themselves.
